An Afternoon Under the Galleria

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milano

The glass-vaulted Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, late sun on the stone

There are places made for passing through.

And then there are places that make you slow down without asking.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II sits in the middle of Milan, but stepping beneath its glass roof changes the rhythm of the city for a moment.

Footsteps echo against stone. Tables spill toward the arcade. People cross from one side to the other with somewhere to be, while others seem perfectly content to remain where they are.

That may be the better way to experience it.

Not as a destination to check off, but as somewhere to linger between destinations.

A coffee. A conversation. Another look upward.

Nothing particularly important needs to happen.

The afternoon is enough.
